Piperine is added to some turmeric products for absorption. We here at JSHealth decided not to use Piperine for several reasons. Piperine/black pepper can be an allergen for some people. Yes, it can increase the absorption of some substances (not always good ones) by inhibiting the glucuronidation pathway of the liver. It also directly alters the intestinal barrier affecting permeability and can inhibit the P-glycoprotein-mediated efflux, an essential transmembrane efflux for absorption. There are also reports of heartburn from some products containing Piperine/black pepper. Instead, we chose ingredients that supported digestion, liver health, collagen and connective tissue, and relieve digestive discomfort and indigestion, along with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory ingredients.
